QE2 and low rates

According to George Will, QE2 (quantitative easing) was accomplished by the Fed buying 70% of new the Treasury's new issues of debt.  Rates will have to rise in order to sell all the issues once QE2 stops in June 2011.

If interest rates are kept low, this stimulates things, such as housing, that are interest rate sensitive.

cutting expenses

Today I told Ann to stop the following services in order to save money.  We have lost the Mexican restaurant at Cotton Plant and will lose Swaffer insurance and K & F Wireless in a month or so.  So I am cutting back.

Mirror Lawn - sweeping service at CP every sunday night - $200 per month
Herbi systems - weed spraying at CP - $100 per month
Green Meadow - fertilize and weed kill at Shamrock - $200 per month
2011-04-04 Also stopping Grisanti's landscaping at Shamrock.  He was cutting grass and maintaining flower beds. -- $480 per month.

Total savings is $980 per month.

bought:

VFSUX - short term investment grade bond fund

Total bond fund has too much US treasury stuff in it and wanted shorter duration than intermediate fund.

Today I bought approx $50,000 of GLD and $50,000 of CNDA in T Rowe Price acct.

GLD - bought 374 shares at 133.95
CNDA - bought 1395 shares at 35.76

Today I bought 4002 shares of CNDA at $33.70 per share.  Order total was $134,987.46 plus commission of $7.95.  Bought for my personal account at Fidelity.

Sold Prime money market VMMXX -- approx $288,884

Bought Vanguard S and P 500 (VFIAX) - $115.31 -- 3554.39 shares  -- approx $409,856 total
Bought Vanguard Small Cap (VSMAX) -  $34.97 -- 11,747.78 shares -- approx $410,820 total
